Introduction to Traditional Thai Massage

Mar 21 2009 - 12:00pm
Mar 22 2009 - 3:00pm

Nuad Bo Rarn (Traditional Thai Massage) is a beautiful and elegant ancient therapeutic healing modality. It embodies the practice of “loving -kindness” and consists of slow rhythmic compressions on the muscles, gentle flowing stretches and thumb presses on specific energetic pathways. Traditional Thai is performed in a quiet meditative atmosphere on a mat on the floor. This enables the practitioner to use graceful whole body movements and even pressure. The giver and receiver work together with conscious awareness of the breath, and practitioners may utilize their thumbs, fingers, hands, elbows, knees and feet to manipulate and stimulate the body.

During this class, participants will learn a basic recipe of Traditional Thai and will gain awareness of how to adjust a session for individual needs. The class will look at the history, philosophical concepts, benefits and contraindications. The Sen Line model of vital energy flow will be introduced, and attention will be given to quality of touch and body mechanics that support vitality for both partners. Class hours are Saturday Noon to 8 PM, and Sunday 8 AM to 3 PM with a 1 hour meal break each day.

The class will be taught by Lyrea Crawford, an experienced Thai and therapeutic yoga instructor (graduated from Scott’s 500 hour program) who will have just returned from her most recent trip to Thailand. NCBTMB Provider Status is pending.
